Fire destroys the Bali Hai Restaurant Building ……WOW!
A fire broke out at the restaurant on Friday, July 1st gutting the structure. Although the cause is still under investigation, apparently there was work being done on the roof involving the use of torches. The word is that the fire started at the roof area somewhere……. probably around 5:00pm….. and quickly spread.
Restaurant Fire Update
On Friday afternoon, July 1, 2011 a fire broke out in the ceiling/roof area of the Bali Hai Restaurant located at the Hanalei Bay Resort, Princeville, Kauai, Hawaii. The roof of the building was engulfed in flames and smoke was billowing toward the ocean. The fire department responded quickly and guests and employees were advised to evacuate to the parking lot.
Damage. The right side of the Bali Hai Restaurant was virtually destroyed. The resort manager’s offices and the restrooms near the restaurant were completely destroyed. The front desk and the office behind them are usable. The Happy Talk Lounge, the Porte cochere, and the front part of the lobby are intact and usable. In fact, we are using this area as a temporary check-in area. The housekeeping and laundry area below the restaurant survived and is usable. The Sundry Shop and fitness center suffered smoke and water damage but are otherwise intact.

How could this have happened???
Especially when the adjoining Happy Talk Lounge (also closed) was set for a reopening the middle of July ……..followed by the restaurant some months later?!?!?
Apparently, the investigation hasn’t produced any announcements as yet, but of course, there have already been the inevitable speculative “insurance murmurs”. Even if the structure in the area of the lounge is deemed safe for occupancy ……….serving food, or even pupu’s, in the lounge would have been challenging …..as the restaurant kitchen was to serve the lounge as well. Comments are welcomed.
OK ……….this blog only got linked to the Kauai North Shore Properties main website a few days ago (8/12) ……….thus no comments as yet. Feel free to leave your comments and/or opinions ……….we look forward to hearing from you!
